The purpose of this resource is to test your student’s ability to understand and appreciate the principles of Ancient Athens and the Iroquois Confederacy and how it had an impact on the democratic principles on which the government of Canada is based. Students will be tested on the following: 1. Have an understanding of local and current affairs in Canada as well as other countries they have studied. 2. Critically evaluate different ideas, information and positions. 3. Use primary sources to interpret historical events and issues. 4. Understand cause and effect and change over time. 5. Construct and interpret different maps (Historical, physical, and political). 6. Use cardinal directions to locate places on maps and globes. 7. Apply ideas and strategies to contribute to decision making and problem solving. 8. Consider multiple perspectives when dealing with issues, decision making and problem solving. 9. Generate alternate solutions to problems using technology. 10. Work collaboratively with others to achieve a common goal. 11. Draw and support conclusions based on information gathered from the Internet and other sources. 12. Organize information through selecting and recording data in a logical manner. 13. Detect bias present in the media. 14. Verify to determine accuracy and relevance of information gathered.
